Xamarin Evolve 2014 – Continuing as the Leader in Cross Device Mobile Development

Xamarin, as you may know, is a cross device mobile programming framework that allows developers proficient in C# to develop for most mobile platforms using the same language and sharing code amongst the devices, greatly reducing the time to market with most applications. In addition, Xamarin programs against the native OS of the targeted devices allowing us to access all of the features of the targeted devices.

Xamarin held their annual conference here in Atlanta this year, and The Proven Method sent five developers to take part in the weeklong conference. It entailed several new announcements as well as many sessions exploring a wide array of features and code level specifics on how to best utilize their technologies to get the most out of both Xamarin and mobile devices.

From the start it was highly evident that Xamarin was serious about application development for mobile devices. Their excitement was contagious.

The theme of Evolve 2014 was based around continuing on as the leader in cross device mobile development by offering solutions that directly address real world challenges of mobile application development. For example, the recently released Xamarin Forms framework allows developers to share up to 95% code across the various platforms. Also exciting was the Portable Class Libraries (PCLs) that compile to assemblies, containing shared business logic between the different supported devices.

There were close to 75 different sessions with many different speakers that explored nearly every corner of developing with Xamarin.

These sessions were packed with information and really added clarity to the complex nature of mobile development. Detailed information exploring business implementations, gaming and next generation mobile offerings really put the emphasis on the mindset around Xamarin’s goals, as well as demonstrating how to get the most out of mobile devices. Also, not overlooked was the depth of the C# language itself and how to best utilize what many describe as the most robust programming language currently available.

All in all the conference was an exciting event illustrating why Xamarin is considered to be the best cross device mobile platform available. The enthusiasm from all present made the event really stand out.
